In his younger days, ‘Ettore Ewen’ was a state champion in high school wrestling. In addition, during his university years, he played American Football as a ‘defensive lineman’ for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Owing to a number of athletic honors garnered by him, he was once named Hillsborough County’s “Ironman of the Year.”
However, after graduating, Big E chose the sport of ‘Powerlifting’. In only his first appearance at USA Powerlifting (USAPL) meet in 2010, Big E became the top heavyweight lifter, breaking all four Florida state raw powerlifting records in the 275-pound category. Additionally, with a 749 raw pound deadlift, he surpassed the national deadlift record at the same event.
To portray Big E as a beast, the WWE added a unique attribute to his gimmick at NXT. Instead of the usual 3 count pin, Big E asked the referees to count until 5. Even with 2 additional counts, the opponents couldn’t find a way out. However, much to fans’ disappointment, this unique ‘feature’ was not carried to his main roster character. Interestingly, the opening lines of the then entrance theme of Big E were- “Three ain’t enough man I need five.”
Reportedly, Big E is very close friends with the ‘eternal’ face of the company- John Cena. Some sources even suggest that whatever Big E is today in the WWE, it is all because of none other than the ‘leader of the Cenation.’
He is very popular on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, where, unlike other wrestlers who talk about sports and politics, Big E writes sarcastic and humorous tweets mostly concerning the Entertainment Industry.
