Kavita Krishnamurthy is a popular Bollywood singer.
She was born in New Delhi in a Tamil Iyer family.
Her aunt, Protimma Bhattacharya, insisted her, to get training in music, and Suruma Basu trained her in ‘Rabindra Sangeet’. She further got training in classical music from Balram Puri.
At the age of 14, she moved to Bombay to try her luck in Bollywood.
When she was in college, she got the opportunity to sing in the Bengali movie ‘Shriman Prithviraj’ with Lata Mangeshkar as co-singer and Hemant Kumar as a music composer.

She lent her voice for the movie ‘Maang Bharo Sajana (1980),’ but it was deleted from the movie in the final cut.

In 1999, she got married to the violinist, Dr L. Subramaniam in Bangalore. She doesn’t have her own child, but her husband has four children from his first wife.
She has won many prestigious awards. In 2000, she bagged ‘Best Singer of the Millenium’ at the Stardust Millennium Awards.
She has worked in both regional and Hindi music industry. She has been lucky enough to work with three-generation singes including Pancham Da, Bappi Lahiri, A. R. Rahman, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam and many more. She made an appearance on TV as a judge in music reality shows.
In that era, melodious or romantic songs were famous, but, she got the opportunity to sing ‘Tu cheez badi hai mast mast’ which was an item number and a hit too.

In 2015, she was awarded ‘Doctorate Degree’ by the Jain University, for the contribution she has made to the music industry.
